How to prevent blinking in photos
If you’ve ever shot a photo of people, you’re sure to know what the blinking syndrome is. Especially if you must take a photo of more than a couple of people. Even most of everyone will be smiling, looking straight at the camera, always someone is going to blink. That results in invalid frame you are unwilling to use.
How can one stop people from blinking during photosession? At first, one should realize why peopple blink. Blinking is a natural behaviour – it’s the way you feed your eyes. Thoug excessive blinking for some people (like me) is hard reaction whenever theyare exposed to bright light. And, even if flash photography is not used, people are so used to it that they may tend to tense up in anticipation of the light, causing them to blink almost on reflex.
But what can you do to avoid blinking in photos? Here are some tips:
1. First and most basic tip – instead of taking just one photo allways take several – at least three. If you use digital camera – it makes you no cost. One out of them should be without blinks, most probably the third one. You allwaus can delete invalid frames but you will have one you can use.
2. Avoid using flash whenever it is possible. Take your photo in a well-lit area that doesn’t require flash. Tell everyone that flash will not be used so they don’t tense up.
3. If you have to use flash, make sure everyone is ready before you take the photo. Keep in mind tip No.1 – take several shots. After a couple of flashes, most peoples’ eyes will get used to the light and they may not blink. However, don’t overshoot with flash, as too much bright light may damage eyes!
